See an exhibit of 10 abstract photos by photographer Scott Emery on display through August 31 at Maze Branch Library.

From the artist
"From Merriam Webster’s Eleventh College Edition: Sanguine: 1. Bloodred. 2a. Consisting of or relating to blood. 2b. Bloodthirsty. 3. Having blood as the predominating bodily humor. 4. Confident, Optimistic

"Humanity Appears Primed for Another Major Setback: Our collective and individual minds are confused, fearful, inattentive. We lack trust in each other and our institutions – worldwide. We are insecure and eager to find someone or something to blame. Power-seekers and grifters proliferate and are ascendant. Lies and disinformation abound. We struggle to define and dimension problems. And the warming world that we have created is not going to wait for us to get our collective act together.

"Can We – And We Own It – Avoid Large Scale Suffering? The ten abstract photographs in this exhibit, displayed as couplets, bear suitably non-sanguine (definition 4) names. Perhaps you do not share my interpretations or my perspective. But maybe you will find the pictures interesting or nice to look at in any event."
