“Overdose affects everyone. From grieving families to spontaneous first responders, the impacts of overdose are far-reaching and fall indiscriminately.” — From the International Overdose Awareness Day website, https://www.overdoseday.com
Every August 31, International Overdose Awareness Day brings a global community together to take action on overdose. It is a global platform that provides tools, resources, and a space for communities to connect and drive change.
Locally, in the Main Library Idea Box, the Oak Park and River Forest Townships have partnered to create August’s educational exhibit titled “Understanding Opioids: Awareness, Support, and Hope.” It will include an interactive component for patrons to memorialize and share the names of loved ones lost to overdose.
On Monday, August 4, from noon to 1 pm, you are invited to meet local exhibit creators—Oak Park Township Prevention Coordinator Angela Aggen and Youth & Family Services Director Megan Traficano—who will be on hand to answer your questions on this important issue that affects us all.
Remarks from:
Tim Thomas, Oak Park Township Supervisor
Angela Aggen, CADC, Task Force Facilitator
Joey Tepper, Illinois Harm Reduction and Recovery Coalition
