Event Details
In observance of #InternationalOverdoseAwarenessDay (August 31st), the Oak Park and River Forest Townships Opioid Task Force will be featured at the Oak Park Public Library's "Idea Box" from August 1st to 31st. Facilitated by Angela Aggen, CADC - Prevention Coordinator, with the support of dedicated community partners (see schedule), this display aims to foster Understanding Opioids: Awareness, Support, and Hope within our community. The substance use crisis has profoundly impacted our neighborhoods, families, and individuals, transcending age, race, and socioeconomic boundaries. We must empower community members with the necessary resources and support to prevent the devastating consequences of substance misuse by providing evidence-based prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery services. This year's display will include a poignant memorial section, offering a space for community members to honor loved ones lost to overdose by adding their names. Our goal is to acknowledge those often unseen and provide individuals affected by addiction with the strongest possible chance for long-term recovery and a hopeful future. Opioid Task Force partners will also hold "office hours" at the display to connect with community members, share crucial information, and answer questions. We encourage everyone in Oak Park, River Forest, and surrounding areas to visit us and learn how #TogetherWeCan make a difference.
