The Hundred-Foot Journey is a feel-good foodie drama of racial tolerance, cross-cultural acceptance, and fusion cuisine. It’s produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey and directed by Lasse Hallstrom.
Hassan is a naive young man with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. Displaced from their native India, his family settles in a quaint village in the south of France. They plan to open an Indian restaurant, that is, until Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), the owner of a classic French restaurant, gets wind of it. Her icy protests against the new Indian restaurant, so near to her own, escalates to unrelenting retaliation; until Hassan's cooking talent and love for Mallory's assistant, Marguerite, becomes an even greater concern.
