“As an artist deeply rooted in the tapestry of Chicago, my work is an exploration of the violence that shadows our city’s communities. I'm driven to bring awareness to the profound impact of violence on the lives of individuals and the collective spirits of our city. In this work, ‘too close,’ I painted the intersection of every fatality by gun within the city of Chicago for the 2023 calendar year.”

Sharon Lomasney is a Chicago-based artist who works mostly in paints, though she studied photograph, painting and ceramics at the University of Madison-Wisconsin. She further honed her painting skills at the School of Art Institute of Chicago. As a social artist, Lomasney’s works delves into the complexities of our interconnected world, addressing issues that prompt introspections and dialogue. She uses her creative expressions as a tool for societal reflection and engagement. Her work goes beyond the canvas, delving in to the intricate intersection art and society. Sharon Lomasney looks to leave a mark on the contemporary art scene, challenging conventional boundaries, and fostering a deeper understanding of the symbiotic relationships between art and society.
