Program Description

Event Details

The Mississippi River Basin is a vast and intricate watershed that spans one-third of North America, shaping the landscape and influencing ecosystems, economies, and human activities across its expansive reach. It is one of the largest drainage systems in the world, covering 1.2 million miles. It encompasses a network of rivers, tributaries, and waterways that ultimately converge into the mighty Mississippi River.

RiverSong is a collection of quilts by members of the Studio Art Quilt Association’s Illinois and Wisconsin region and curated by artist Lindsay Olson. Each explores aspects of the Mississippi River Basin, the vast and intricate watershed that spans one-third of North America. Each artist's creativity explored an idea inspired by the history, archeology, culture, geology, or commerce of this expansive watershed. Join us in a visual symphony that celebrates the intricate dance between water and life within the expansive embrace of the Mississippi Watershed.

Art Reception and Gallery Talk, June 4, 6:30-8 pm, with a gallery talk beginning at 7 pm at the Main Library Gallery.

RiverSong is on view from May 19-June 27, at the Main Library Gallery.
