In collaboration with the library's 5th Annual Restorative Practices Conference (January 19 & 20), view select pieces from the Art Program at Bridge to Freedom from January 16 through February 3.

Bridge to Freedom is a transitional supportive housing program that walks with inmates, starting one year before release up to two years after release. Because it is important to develop a healthy sense of identity and purpose with a practical plan for reaching that destiny, this live-in program creates a safe atmosphere of care within a culture of honor for true healing and transformation to occur.

The Art Program at Bridge to Freedom is a way for incarcerated individuals (within Illinois including those who have no outdate or are lifers), those home on parole, or the formerly incarcerated to be able to express themselves through the arts. In additional to two-dimentional art, Bridge to Freedom has a Black Box Theater located on Chicago's South Side, developed for returning citizens to create and express themselves through songs, poetry, theater, journaling, and spoken word.
