Program Description

Event Details

The Family, Literacy, and Social Justice speaker series seeks to provide opportunities for caregivers and educators to learn from experts in a variety of fields, to share ideas with others, and to support each other’s efforts to enrich our local communities. The goal is to raise awareness and confront social injustices through different forms of literacy. Each presenter will hopefully challenge your thinking, further broaden your understanding, and inspire you to take action in reaching all learners.

Hugo D. Miranda has been working in education for 10 + years. His work has focused on restorative justice models around discipline, and trauma-informed strategies in order to support students and their families. He has also created spaces for community and parent engagement through talking circles within the school setting.

Mr. Miranda believes that involvement by our young people at the decision-making table is important in order to tap into their resiliency and resourcefulness. In this spirit, Mr. Miranda will be discussing the school-to-prison pipeline through a community perspective lens.
