Event Details

Could your space use a little light? Or maybe you'd like to shine some light into someone else's life with a gift? Learn how to make your own personalized LED acrylic lamp that can light up and change colors at the press of a button!

This is a virtual workshop in three parts that guides teens through designing, laser etching, and assembling their own faux-neon LED acrylic lamp.

Design Time
Learn to use Inkscape, a vector graphic design software, to create your own personalized design for a cool LED lamp. You will be guided through each step needed to get your design ready for our laser cutter! This session is mandatory in order to receive a lamp. (1 hour)

Live Stream Laser
Once you've created your design, keep an eye out for the live streams where your design will get laser etched into acrylic with the library's laser cutter. You'll get an email the day your design is scheduled to get cut! If you miss it, don't worry, we'll have a video saved, and you can watch it whenever you like.

Show It Off
Finally, you'll get to take your project home and assemble it! You'll get an email once your lamp has been cut telling you how to pick up your lamp at one of the library's pickup lockers. You can either assemble it on your own or join us virtually on December 17 at 4:30vpm to assemble alongside others and show off your creation to everyone! Remember to REGISTER for the Show It Off session if you would like to join us! (1.5 hours)

Attending the Live Streams or Show It Off session is not mandatory, but the Design Time session is mandatory to be able to actually get your design made into a physical object.
