Program Description

Event Details

In Ashes to Ink: A Memoir, author Lisa Lucca revisits the complicated relationship she had with her gay father when he came out in 1974 and delves deeper into love, sexuality, and the family she comes from with a shimmering clarity that arises from her grief after his death. Lucca was a resident of Oak Park until her parents' divorce, and her dad remained a resident for many years, often performing in productions by the Village Players.

To commemorate LGBT History month, attendees will learn more about the history of LGBTQ+ families, how far we have come in our journey of acceptance and inclusion from the 1970s until the present, and how much further we still need to go. Through her story of heartache and forgiveness, Lucca shines a light on the challenges of parents living true to who they we are.
