Event Details
The Third Annual Uniquely You Tea Party is a Black affinity workshop held in honor of Black History Month. The tea party serves as a social-emotional development event with discussions led by professional Black women from the Oak Park community. This year's Keynote speaker is Joslyn Bowling-Dixon, Executive Director of the Oak Park Public Library.
The tea party setting creates a safe space for girls ages 8-12 that identify as members of the Diaspora. Honest conversations about race, equity, colorism, body-image, friendship, and leadership are encouraged. We hope to inspire and empower attendees to find and use their voice to become stronger leaders and anti-racist advocates.
The theme of this year's Uniquely You Tea Party is "CREATIVITY!" The color is PURPLE! Girls are encouraged to wear whatever makes them feel beautiful! There is no such thing as being overdressed at this purple party!
This is a DROP-OFF event. All participants must be registered to attend. A professional photographer will be on-site to take photographs.
This event was made possible in part by grant donations from the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association and the Village of Oak Park's Community Relations Commission.
About the location
The Nineteenth Century Club was established in 1891 by a group of visionary women who believed that education, charitable activities, and civic involvement were vital elements in a thriving community. The spirit of the founders continues today in the work of the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association through grants, scholarships, and public programming in five areas: art, literature, music, science, and social sciences.
