Event Details

The Idea Box window display transports patrons to the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, room 306, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. Visitors can view images, quotes, and a copy of King's "I Have A Dream" speech, as a memorial to his profound legacy of peace and racial justice.

Also featured are the "Dream Hands" of community members. Patrons are encouraged to write their dreams for the future on the palm of the hands to be displayed as a tribute to King's life. If you would like to contribute a Dream Hand, we have two opportunities:

Drop-In Dream Hands, Monday, January 16, 11 am-2 pm, Main Library Idea Box. Stop into the Idea Box to write your dream on a paper hand, and we'll add it to the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial display!

Dream Hands, all month long, Main Library Children's Services and Dole and Maze branches. Stop by a service desk, write out your dream for the future, and we'll add your Dream Hand to the display throughout January.
