About Disability Pride

This month celebrates people with disabilities and disability as an identity. It aims to directly challenge systemic ableism and discrimination faced by those with a disability, centering disabled experiences.

Disability Pride means different things to different people: to honor early activists, recognition that their disability is intrinsic to their self, celebrating disability visibility in public spaces, and more.

President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. To celebrate the signing, Boston held the first Disability Pride event in July 1990. Ever since, July has been the month to celebrate Disability Pride.

This event is part of our Disability Pride Month celebration.
