Program Description

Event Details

Join us for an evening of live music, art, and intergenerational conversation with visual artist Tia Etu, rapper F.U.R.Y., fine art photographer Tye Moores, and rapper Jsteezzy in celebration of Black futures and Juneteenth. This event will be held both in-person in the Main Library's Veterans Room and streamed on Zoom.

MORE ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Tia Etu is a celebrated Oak Park-based painter, muralist, sculptor and more whose art captures social inequities in powerful and unique ways. Recently, the library commissioned the Juneteenth-inspired painting The Call from Etu for its permanent collection. More of her work can be seen at her studio Whatever Comes to Mind in Oak Park. She is a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Samantha Jordan, known as F.U.R.Y. (Finally Understanding the Real You), has been a Chicago-based rapper since 2015. Her latest EP FURY REVOLUTION comes out on June 24. Her recent work has focused on the revitalization of Chicago’s West Side. In January 2022, her proposal for renovations to Columbus Park in Austin won a $1.5 million city grant as part of the Chicago Works Community Challenge.

Tye Moores is a fine art photographer creating her own narrative of what Black beauty is. Her work delves into the unknown of the culture varying from textured hair, dialect, and colorism. Growing up on the west side of Chicago, Moores works to continuously affect and "introduce the black side of fine art" to her peers that she feels was absent in her youth.

Jalen Sharp, known onstage as Jsteezzy (Jay-st-easy), is a rap artist and recent graduate of Oak Park River Forest High School. His music includes the albums $Till $Teezzy and True Artist, and the EP titled TBH, and can be found on all platforms. He enjoys basketball, video games, hanging out with family and friends, and watching anime.
