Meeting/Event Description
Blondena’s HEIRS (Heritage, Equity, Inheritance, and Resources for Sustainability) is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories, traditions, and histories of African American families. Our mission is to transform multi-generational oral histories into written and performing arts to inform and inspire the next five generations.
This summer we will be offering youth programming to students between the ages of 9-12.
Program Description
"Roots & Roofs: Building Legacy Through Home"
Themes: Property Preservation, Generational Wealth, and Community Storytelling
Program Overview: Students explore the concept of home ownership, family legacy, and community preservation — with a special focus on divested communities of color. Through storytelling, engineering, and design, they learn how homes hold history, memory, and opportunity. They work in teams to design and build model homes (using LEGOs, recycled materials, cardboard, or craft supplies), and record personal or imagined stories about why homes matter.
