From the artist
"I have found myself drawn to exploring the ancestral blueprint that I carry into this life. Many of the details of my family stories are blurry and lost to history, revealing themselves in this generation through epigenetic expression and unexplained proclivities.

"As the great-granddaughter of Jewish immigrants and a donor-conceived person, I am both inextricably connected to and removed from the vast traumas that my ancestors experienced, some of which will forever remain unknowable. Painting serves as a way to allow otherwise concealed stories within my journey to emerge again.

"My work explores themes of trauma and the emotions typically considered the darker side of the psyche including grief, heartbreak, and agony. I primarily use black and white to convey the universal nature and intensity of the energy, and often infuse my work with gold to indicate the growth and beauty interwoven with the expression of raw emotion.

"I invite you to see what stirs deep within you when you stand with these pieces."

About the artist
Sara Moskowitz is a somatic psychotherapist and a self-taught artist. She owns a small private practice in Oak Park where she is honored to hold space for courageous folks as they heal through traumas both lived and inherited. Early into her clinical career, Sara discovered that painting was a way to process content that she otherwise had no words for. While the majority of the images in the gallery are part of her own personal process, a handful are inspired by the stories of her clients.
